Vienna 2010… Friday 29th October to be precise… Tim Simenon, multi-talented musician, composer, producer and label owner was in attendance with BOMB THE BASS who were playing live at the Rathaus in the Austrian capital, as part of the ‘Back To Light’ album tour.
Who could possibly have known then that fate would bring two members of the supporting band at that show – drummer Roman Lugmayr and keyboard player Georg Lichenauer – together with Simenon? In fact, the rapport between the three musicians was so strong that Simenon moved from his home at that time in Amsterdam to Vienna so they could all pursue a working relationship together. The story continues when singer Laura Gomez was booked by Simenon for one of his club nights… fate intervened again, the circle was complete and GHOST CAPSULES were born…
Their first single release is ‘Inside’, over four minutes of mesmerising synthesized pleasure that will have you chair dancing if you are not already up on your feet! Laura Gomez’s vocal rises and falls seductively while the track has a wonderful Scandinavian influence whilst still maintaining the accessibility of Tim Simenon’s best known work with such luminaries as JOHN FOXX, DAVID BOWIE and DEPECHE MODE…
The EP’s remixes include one by GHOST CAPSULES’ instrumental alias THE THIRD MIND plus a remake by MAKOSSA & MEGABLAST whose interpretation explores hypnotic beats with flashes of dub. Meanwhile, Viennese DJ LUPO delivers sublime techno that will transport you to a deserted beach with the aural equivalent of the sea kissing the toes. Bonus song ‘Sleepless’ is deep and spatial; Vienna based Japanese DJ KEN HAYAKAWA’s remix provides an incessant rhythm that trips in the shady, rainy city like a soundtrack to a remake of ‘The Third Man’.
Having been privileged to hear the forthcoming eponymous album due out in April, it is well worth the wait. The marvellous, recently unveiled new single ‘Game Of Thrones’ is enjoyably unsettling with hints of IAMAMIWHOAMI and THE KNIFE gone techno in Laura Gomez’s voice. A German tour has been announced starting in Hamburg on 31st May 2013 with dates also pencilled in for Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart. As for live dates in the rest if Europe? It’s just a question of time…
